Debby Rihn
Harvey, from La Porte, Texas,
has flown unlimited category in
aerobatic competition for 22
years. She has represented the
U.S. in ten Aerobatic
Championships in North America
and Europe. In world
competition Debby has been a
gold medalist and holds many
regional titles as well as being
the U.S. National Women's
Champion.
She represents
the third generation of aviators
in her family. Her grandfather,
Roy Furstenberg, manufactured
the Overland Sport Aircraft in
Omaha, Nebraska in the 1920's,
while her father, Jack
Furstenberg, taught her to fly
in her teens, soloing at age
16. During college years she
earned her instrument,
multiengine, commercial and
certified flight instructor
ratings. In 1979 she earned her
rating as an Airline Transport
Pilot, and in 1988, added a
Boeing 737 type to her many
certificates. Debby has
accumulated over 23,000 hours of
flying and is currently a
captain for Southwest Airlines.
In addition to
many hours of practice for
competition and airshow flying,
she manages her fixed base
operation, Harvey & Rihn
Aviation in La Porte, Texas.
Debby is an Aerobatic Competency
Evaluator (ACE) for the
International Council of
Airshows and, since 1981, an FAA
Designated Flight Examiner,
administering flight exams for
Private Pilot through Airline
Transport Pilot Certificates.
